A Quiet Room

A Quiet Room

Mira sat by the frosted window of her small apartment, the pale light of a foreign city casting long shadows across the empty room. Outside, unfamiliar streets bustled with sounds she could barely understand—voices blending into a hum that made her feel smaller, more invisible.

She had come here chasing a dream, a promise of something better. But now, wrapped in the silence of her loneliness, that dream felt like a distant echo, fading with every passing day. The weight in her chest was heavier than any suitcase she’d carried on the plane.

Each morning was a struggle to rise, to face the maze of signs and languages that made her world feel like an endless puzzle. The warmth of her family’s laughter was replaced by cold echoes in her mind, memories that stung with longing.

She reached out—tried calling an old friend, searching for a familiar face in crowded cafes—but found only polite smiles and hurried steps. The city’s anonymity swallowed her whole, and with it, the hope that she could find her place.

Tears slipped silently down her cheeks as she wondered if this loneliness would ever lift. Was there a way out of this suffocating stillness? Somewhere beyond the walls of this quiet room, a door must be waiting—she just needed to find it.
